July 26, 1863 Confederate General John Morgan and his troops were falling back after a firefight with Union soldiers.
Morgan led his horses into this ravine to a natural spring to water them and regroup. At this point they were scrambling through these hills being harassed by Union troops who were everywhere at this point.
His soldiers had to know they were too far from home, they were dead tired and war weary.
I had a few hours to search this area and I didn't find anything of the era and it's okay.... just walking in that area you could feel the history. I'll take that.
